The Louis Vuitton store at Marina Bay in Singapore, lit up at night on the waterfront

Singapore

On the rare occasion I leave my vegetative state at my grandparents' house and venture down toward Marina Bay, I'm always impressed by the opulence Singapore boasts. The Louis Vuitton store looks as dazzling as the Louvre, sitting as one of many jewels lining Singapore's waterfront. Singapore's success as a country is unbelievable: with almost no land, freshwater, or natural resources, the nation's prime minister cried on national television 60 years ago, unsure the country would even survive. Singapore leveraged its position between China and India to grow into a global hub of world-class governance and wealth. Singapore is built on many humble beginnings (and still is) that I think most tourists don't associate with the country.
